Wedge Mouthpieces

Wedge mouthpieces are built around a specific design philosophy: consistent reed response across the full dynamic and register range. The geometry of the Wedge chamber and baffle addresses one of the most common complaints players have about standard mouthpieces — uneven resistance and unpredictable feedback depending on how hard or soft you're playing.

For saxophone players, the Wedge offers a focused, centered tone that works across styles. It doesn't push you toward a specific sound — bright or dark, classical or commercial — so much as it gets out of the way and lets your air and embouchure do the work. Players who switch to a Wedge often notice more consistency across registers and less effort maintaining pitch at the extremes.

For clarinet players, the same principles apply. The facing and table geometry are precise, which means the reed seats evenly and responds predictably. This matters most in the upper register and in soft passages where inconsistent reed contact causes the most trouble.

Tip opening and facing length are the key specs to match to your playing style and reed strength. A wider tip opening gives more flexibility and volume potential but requires greater air support and embouchure control. A narrower opening is more forgiving and consistent — better suited to classical playing or players earlier in their development.

If you're currently on a stock mouthpiece and haven't explored aftermarket options, a Wedge is worth serious consideration. The difference in response and consistency is noticeable, and the design holds up well across a range of reeds and ligatures.
