Saxophone mouthpiece repair and refacing

A mouthpiece reface is one of the most ellusive services in the saxophone world — and one of the most impactful. The facing is the curved surface that runs from the tip rail to the point where the reed first contacts the mouthpiece. When it's even, accurate, and well-fitted to the tip opening, the reed responds freely and the mouthpiece plays the way it was designed to. When it's off — even by half a millimetre — the reed fights you. Response suffers. Tone suffers. You could be compensating and fighting without realising it.

Joshua Adam has been quietly refacing mouthpieces for ten years. In 2016 he made his first mouthpiece by hand. That foundation shows in the work. A reface by Joshua isn't a cosmetic touch-up or a quick flatten-and-polish. The facing curve, the tip opening, the rail evenness, each element measured, assessed, and corrected to bring the mouthpiece to its full potential.

The best way to understand if refacing could be an option for you is to play refaced mouthpieces. We keep a selection of refaced mouthpieces on display in the shop specifically for that purpose. Come in, try them, and hear the difference for yourself. We also carry a wide assortment of other mouthpieces for comparison — so you can test, explore, and make an informed decision about what's right for your playing.

If you have a mouthpiece you love but suspect isn't playing as well as it should, bring it in. Let's find out what it's capable of.
