Description
Drake built their baritone mouthpieces around a chamber design that addresses the core challenge of the horn: getting punch and projection without losing warmth or control. Every baritone model in the line shares that same foundational chamber geometry, with variations in baffle angle and floor slope that shift the character from model to model. The Contemporary Rollover sits at the centre of the lineup — the most balanced and versatile of the three.
The chamber is a medium reverse-taper Venturi design. That taper accelerates airflow as it moves through the chamber, which gives your sound focus and presence without forcing brightness. The rollover baffle adds punch and definition at the front of the tone — enough edge to cut through a loud band, but not so aggressive that it pushes the sound thin or forces you to work harder than you need to.
The result is a mouthpiece that genuinely covers ground. Big band section work, straight-ahead jazz, blues, funk, pop — the Contemporary Rollover moves between all of it without asking you to compromise. That kind of versatility is harder to build than it sounds, especially on a big horn where the low end can easily get muddy or the upper register can go harsh. Drake got the balance right.
