Description

The Yanagisawa BC200 starts with a small, round chamber — a design reminiscent of the Freddie Gregory mouthpieces that defined a certain era of baritone saxophone playing. Gregory's work influenced some of the most recognisable bari sounds in jazz history, and that small round chamber is a big part of why: it gives the tone focus and presence without the weight getting muddy in the low end.

This piece has been professionally refaced by Joshua Adam with the Gregory-style mouthpieces played by Gerry Mulligan specifically in mind. The tip opening has been opened to 2.65mm / 0.105" (7*), giving it more room to breathe than the stock setup while keeping the core character of the chamber intact. The result is a mouthpiece with easy, consistent response across the full range of the horn — clear in the upper register, full and controlled in the low end, and even throughout.
If you've been looking for a baritone mouthpiece with that vintage Gregory character without paying vintage prices or taking a gamble on an unrefaced piece, this is a rare find. Ligature included.
