Description
The bass clarinet is capable of more than most players realize — and more than most mouthpieces allow. The Vocalise Bass was designed by Richard Hawkins and precision machined at Backun to change that. These mouthpieces don't just improve on what came before. They redefine what the instrument can do in the hands of a player who knows how to use it.
Like all Vocalise mouthpieces, each bass model is milled from proprietary hard rubber on a nine-axis CNC machine using a done-in-one program that combines milling and lathing without recalibration. The consistency that process produces is audible immediately — even response across the full range of the instrument, reliable pitch centre, and a clarity in the altissimo that bass clarinet players don't always expect to find.
The Vocalise Bass is designed to work equally well on both cane and synthetic reeds, which matters on an instrument where reed options can be limited and players often need to be flexible. Articulation is clean and controlled, and the voicing stays centred whether you're playing softly in the low register or pushing into the upper range.
Three facings cover the full spectrum of playing preferences. The R (close/short) is the most resistant — focused and controlled, well suited to players who want precision and a compact feel. The G (medium/medium) is the versatile middle option that works for most settings. The H (open/long) opens things up for players who want maximum flexibility and dynamic range.
Ligature not included.
