Virtuoso Clarinet Mouthpiece

Most signature mouthpieces are designed for someone else. The Virtuoso is different — it's Clark Fobes' own personal mouthpiece, the one he has played professionally for the past 25 years, made available to other players. That's a meaningful distinction. It's not a model built to a theoretical specification; it's the actual setup a working professional has trusted through decades of real performance.

The blank was co-designed by Fobes with JJ Babbitt — one of the most respected names in mouthpiece blank manufacturing — and is now machined from German rod rubber by Wesley Rice of Rice Clarinet Works. The move to German rod rubber and Rice's precision machining brings a level of consistency and density to the material that older versions of the blank couldn't match. Each piece is extensively hand-finished and voiced before it leaves the shop.

The tone is elegant and projecting — warm and refined, with a presence that carries in ensemble and solo settings without pushing into brightness. Intonation is reliable and easy to manage, and the playing feel is one that rewards players who want a mouthpiece that simply gets out of the way and lets them make music.
