Description
James Kanter was the leading solo clarinet artist in the Los Angeles film studios, performing in over a thousand motion picture scores and hundreds of television shows — ET, Schindler's List, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and countless others. He also served as principal clarinet with the Pacific Symphony and has spent nearly 50 years handcrafting mouthpieces used by players worldwide. When Chedeville and Kanter decided to collaborate, the result was something both sides describe the same way: sublime.
The Cinema and Opera are made from Chedeville's proprietary hard rubber — the same reformulated rod rubber recipe that made original pre-war Chedeville mouthpieces so prized — and manufactured using state-of-the-art CNC machining with expert hand finishing at the Chedeville factory in Savannah, Georgia. Every piece is individually finished to Kanter's exacting specifications.
The Cinema (1.07mm) sits in the middle of the Chedeville range — neither the most resistant nor the most open, which is precisely why it appeals to more players than any other model in the lineup. Warm, flexible, and at home across orchestral, classical, and contemporary settings.
The Opera (1.20mm) builds on the Cinema with a larger tip opening for players who want more warmth, tonal breadth, and dynamic flexibility. It delivers a rich sound with added depth and a responsive feel with a natural sense of resistance, allowing for expressive nuance and dynamic control.
