TM Vocalise Soprano Sax Mouthpiece

The soprano saxophone is one of the most unforgiving instruments to play well. Intonation drifts, registers don't speak evenly, and mouthpieces that work beautifully on alto or tenor often fall short on soprano. The TM Vocalise was built from the ground up to address all of that.

Designed by Timothy McAllister and Richard Hawkins and manufactured using Backun's five-axis CNC machining in Canada, this is a mouthpiece built to the same exacting standard as every Vocalise in the line. The small round chamber and flat baffle produce a warm, attractive tone with a centred core — clear and even from the bottom of the horn to the top, with no register where the response thins or the pitch wanders.

Evenness of scale is the defining quality here. Each note speaks with the same character and clarity as the one before it, which makes advanced repertoire more manageable and makes the instrument more trustworthy in performance. Articulation is clean and precise throughout the full range, and the control the mouthpiece offers adapts to what the music asks for — punchy and robust when the writing calls for projection, refined and lyrical when it asks for something quieter and more intimate.

At 1.12mm, the tip opening is well suited to the demands of classical and advanced playing — enough openness for dynamic flexibility without sacrificing the control and focus that soprano demands.
