Description

The Redwood is KB Sax's original tenor neck model — the one that started everything — and it remains one of the most compelling options in the lineup. The hand hammered copper produces a tone that's slightly darker in character than the Vanguard, with a round, centred core that holds its quality at every dynamic level. Rich and layered in a way that rewards extended listening, with a smooth brightness sitting on top of warm undertones. Complex without being unfocused.

The hand hammering process is the defining element, and it goes far deeper than the visual impression. Inspired by the legendary cymbal makers of the past — craftsmen who painstakingly hammered each cymbal to develop its exact resonance — KB Sax applies a precise, deliberate hammering process to each copper tube after it's formed. The hammering hardens the metal substantially, making it as pull-down resistant as a brass neck, while simultaneously bringing out the specific sound, resonance, and response characteristics that define the Redwood's character. What you see on the surface is the byproduct of work that shapes how the neck sounds and plays.

An analogy when comparing the three neck models: the Canyon plays closer to a 5-digit Mark VI, the Redwood plays more like a Conn 10M or earlier Selmer Balanced Action, and the Vanguard plays more like a late Super Balanced Action. Three distinct tonal identities, each built to the same exacting standard.

Every tenon is custom fabricated to fit your specific instrument. We'll contact you to arrange measurements, and our repair team will fit the neck to your saxophone at no charge. If you upgrade your horn in the future, we'll refit it to your new instrument as well.
