Forestone RX Tenor Sax - Red Brass, Unlacquered

The Forestone RX is the flagship model in Forestone's saxophone line, built around a set of design choices aimed at a bigger, more focused tone and a faster response than typical production horns. This unit is built in red brass and left unlacquered, giving the bare metal direct contact with the air column. Players who prefer unlacquered horns often describe a more immediate, open feel under the fingers and a quicker breakdown of the sound, with this Red Brass version leaning toward a warmer, darker core compared to the standard yellow brass RX.

The RX series uses rolled tone holes, soldered rather than drawn, which gives a flatter, more even seat for the pads and keeps the tone holes repairable over the life of the horn. The brass itself is a specific alloy of 73% copper and 27% zinc, developed through testing to give a rich, distinct tonal character. The body, bow, bell, and neck go through a cryogenic treatment, where the metal is brought down to 196 degrees below zero in liquid nitrogen to tighten and unify the molecular structure, similar in principle to traditional metal tempering.

Other build details carried across the RX line include a hybrid post construction, full rib construction on both the top and bottom stack, an adjustable metal thumb hook, and blue steel springs. Pads are Pisoni Pro with metal resonators, fitted and adjusted by Atsushi Watanabe, who oversees assembly on the full RX series. Key touches are genuine mother of pearl, and the bell and neck carry hand engraving. The horn includes a detachable, engraved bell and is built with a high F# key.

This unit is new and unused. It will go through our standard play-test and adjustment process before it ships, the same as every horn that leaves our shop.
