Description
The barrel is one of the most overlooked upgrades on a clarinet, and the RCW barrel makes its contributions in specific, measurable ways. The ringless exterior removes mass that can dampen resonance, letting the barrel vibrate more freely. The reverse taper bore focuses the air column as it moves through, which tightens intonation, improves response, and makes the clarinet easier to play throughout the full range. These are deliberate acoustic choices that translate directly into a better playing experience on any clarinet — and on an older instrument, the improvement can be genuinely transformative.
Two material options suit different priorities. Grenadilla delivers the warm, rich tone that premium clarinet wood is known for. On some clarinets it's the obvious choice — but it's worth knowing that on certain instruments, Delrin actually outperforms wood. Delrin is a composite material with similar density and acoustic response to grenadilla, but without any of the dimensional instability that wood introduces. No warping, no cracking, no tonal shift as humidity changes through Calgary's seasons. What you get on day one is what you'll have indefinitely.
Built to RCW's exacting in-house standards from high-quality materials, with the same precision applied to every barrel and mouthpiece in the lineup. Always worth trying both materials on your specific instrument before committing.
