BSS Red Label Reeds

Boston Sax Shop has built a reputation on reeds that perform at a serious level — consistent, well-made, and designed by players who know what they're listening for. The Red Label is their newest addition to the Custom Reed line, developed in partnership with one of the top cane suppliers in the world and designed by BSS owner Jack Tyler.

Where the Black and Silver Label reeds lean toward a darker, more centred sound, the Red Label goes in a different direction. The tip is thinner, which means faster response off the tongue and easier access to projection without having to push air harder to get there. If you play in settings where you need to cut — loud stages, big bands, lead work — this reed gets you there with less effort.

The tone sits on the brighter, edgier side of the spectrum with a punchy core that gives your sound presence and definition. That doesn't mean thin or harsh — the control and evenness that BSS is known for is still there. You can back off and play softly, and the reed responds cleanly at both ends of the dynamic range.
