Backun Fatboy Barrel

The Fatboy is Backun's best-selling barrel, and the name doesn't quite prepare you for what it actually does. The oversized belly adds mass that changes how the instrument vibrates, giving you a direct sound with a lot of resonance and ping to it. The tone is dark and rich, but the response stays light and even — a combination that's harder to achieve than it sounds and exactly why this barrel works across so many different playing situations. 

The Fatboy produces a beautifully focused and controlled sound with an even sense of resistance throughout. There's no need to make sacrifices for a darker tone — it gives the feeling of lighter response with more resistance. Resistant notes become less so, and the overall playing experience evens out across the full range of the instrument.

Made from premium unstained grenadilla — aged in Backun's climate-controlled facility in Vancouver — with no dyes or stains applied. The natural wood grain is visible throughout.
