Description
The barrel sits between the mouthpiece and the body of the instrument, and its material and bore geometry shape the tone in ways players notice immediately. The RCW barrel was designed to improve every aspect of playing — response, tuning, focus, and ease — regardless of what clarinet it goes on. A genuine upgrade for a good instrument, and a meaningful improvement on an older one.
The ringless design removes mass at the exterior that can dampen resonance, letting the barrel vibrate more freely and contributing to a livelier, more responsive sound. The reverse taper bore focuses the air column as it moves through the barrel, which tightens intonation, improves response, and makes the clarinet easier to play throughout the full range. These are deliberate acoustic choices, not aesthetic ones.
Two material options suit different priorities. Grenadilla delivers the warm, rich tone that premium clarinet wood is known for — the natural acoustic properties of the wood contribute directly to the sound. Delrin is a composite material with similar density and acoustic response to grenadilla, but without the risk of warping, cracking, or dimensional movement over time. A practical choice for players who want the character of wood without the fragility.
Built to RCW's exacting in-house standards.
