Chedeville
Few names in the clarinet world carry more historical weight than Chedeville. The Chedeville company was originally founded in Paris in the early 1920s, crafting mouthpieces from super-resonant premium rod rubber that became the gold standard for classical clarinetists worldwide. The original Chedeville rubber was legendary — darker, more resonant and more acoustically responsive than anything else available. When the company eventually disappeared, the mouthpieces became collector's items, sought after by players who had experienced their extraordinary quality firsthand.
Now under the leadership of Jody Espina of JodyJazz, Chedeville mouthpieces are once again available using the original Chedeville rod rubber recipe, reformulated after years of painstaking historical research. The proprietary Chedeville Rubber — CHR — is a more pure rod ebonite that recreates the great rod rubber of pre-World War II legendary Chedeville mouthpieces. If you don't see the CHR symbol on the mouthpiece, it's not made from genuine Chedeville Rubber.
At Wind Instrument Proshop we carry the complete Chedeville clarinet mouthpiece lineup in Canada — every model made in Savannah, Georgia using state-of-the-art CNC machining combined with essential handwork by expert mouthpiece artisans.
The Umbra — The most advanced digital scanning was used on a legendary vintage Chedeville mouthpiece to ensure the Umbra starts with a true Chedeville blank. Developed in collaboration with Milan Rericha, one of Europe's most respected clarinetists. For players who specifically want maximum darkness and freedom.
The SAV — The SAV combines the best qualities of the Umbra and Elite — the beautiful dark warmth of the Umbra with the free-blowing clean articulation of the Elite. The Kanter Cinema & Opera — James Kanter is a world-renowned clarinetist and mouthpiece maker who has performed in nearly 1,500 motion picture scores and hundreds of TV shows during his more than 40 years as a Hollywood studio clarinetist. The Cinema is his most versatile design — warm, flexible and suited to more players than any other Chedeville. The Opera is the next evolution — a larger tip opening delivering rich sound with added depth and flexibility across all registers.
The Kaspar CB1 Barrel — The only hard-anodized aluminum clarinet barrel in the world. Hourglass exterior mirrors the interior bore for maximum resonance and projection. Lighter than wood, dimensionally stable in any climate, with a uniquely focused and powerful tone that no wooden barrel can replicate. The perfect complement to any mouthpiece.
