Vintage King Marigaux Alto Saxophone by SML — Fully Overhauled

The King Marigaux is a stencil horn made by SML in France — and that's the important part. SML produced some of the finest French saxophones of the postwar era, building instruments for their own brand and for a number of other names sold in North America. The King Marigaux is one of those, and players who know SML horns seek them out specifically for the dark, projecting tone and strong fundamental that define the line.

This example plays with a focused, warm character — a strong emphasis on the core of each note with excellent intonation. For a jazz player who wants a vintage French sound without the looseness that some players find in horns of this era, this one delivers.

The horn includes a number of features that set it apart from comparable vintage altos: a G# articulation lever, a moveable neck receiver that can be repositioned and locked at any angle, gold-plated springs, a brass brace on the SML-style neck, and real mother-of-pearl touches on the upper and lower stacks. Keywork runs from low Bb to palm F with a front F mechanism.

This saxophone will be fully overhauled by Joshua Adam before it ships — all new tan Music Medic pads, fresh key materials, complete regulation, and any necessary body work completed. It will arrive in perfect playing condition, not a player's project.
