Description

A clarinet that's been properly refitted plays better than most new instruments off a shelf. This is a full mechanical restoration — not a touch-up, not a selective repad — every pad, cork, felt, and adjustment material replaced, every mechanism cleaned, oiled, and set to tight tolerances. The instrument will look the same when it's done. It will play like it's new, if not better.

This service takes up to 40 hours of labour. That's what the work actually requires when it's done right.

The process begins with full disassembly. All 20+ pads are replaced with high-quality non-compressible materials — synthetic, leather, or a combination depending on what best suits the instrument. All key materials are replaced. Keys are ultrasonically cleaned. The instrument body is cleaned. Tone holes are adjusted and re-faced as needed for the best possible pad seal and response. Springs are checked, adjusted, and replaced where needed. Every mechanism and related part is cleaned, oiled, and carefully adjusted for tight, reliable action.

Key-to-key adjustments — loss of motion, venting heights, regulation — are all optimised for the best possible performance. After assembly, the instrument is set aside for several days to settle, then re-assessed and any additional adjustments completed.

Parts are billed separately. Any additional damage not covered by the standard service will be quoted before work proceeds.
