Description
A wooden headjoint changes the character of a flute in ways that no amount of silver work can replicate. The warmth, the depth, the tonal complexity — these are qualities that come from the wood itself, and the Lavoie Symphonic headjoint is built around the finest examples of it.
Each headjoint is made from wood selected to the highest standards: tight grain, closed pores, no knots, and dried for five years or more before it ever touches a machine. That extended drying process stabilizes the wood dimensionally and allows its acoustic properties to fully develop. The result is a headjoint that plays with a richness and expressiveness that freshly cut wood can't produce.
Two species are available, each with its own sonic character. Grenadilla is the classic choice — dark, warm, and dense, with a deep, centred tone and exceptional resonance. Mopane sits in different territory — slightly lighter and brighter in character, with a distinctive warmth that rewards players looking for something outside the grenadilla tradition.
Silver rings and tenon complement the wood beautifully and contribute to the refined, balanced response. The outer tenon diameter is 19.7mm and fits most common flutes. A free tenon fitting by our instrument repair team is included with every purchase — email us before shipping and we can size it to your specific flute tenon.
Includes tenon cap, cleaning rod, and carrying case.
