Description
The standard flute headjoint has a learning curve that stops a lot of people before they get started. Fliphead was invented by professional saxophonist Axel Müller as a solution for saxophone players who want to double on flute without dedicating years to developing a flute embouchure. The result plays as easily as a recorder or low whistle — most players can get through a full scale within minutes. Librassco
The tone is inspired by the Irish low whistle — deep, warm, and melancholic, with a character that's entirely different from a standard metal headjoint. It turns your Boehm flute into a fully chromatic low whistle, playable in all keys, while keeping the keyed mechanism of the instrument intact.
The accessibility goes beyond doubling. Players with lung conditions, shoulder problems, or disabilities that make the standard transverse position difficult have found the Fliphead opens the instrument back up. Holding the flute vertically in front of the body rather than to the side is a genuinely different physical experience — more comfortable for many players, and the included thumb rest helps balance the instrument in that position.
The AM-1 has an open wind way and large chamber producing an open, full tone with very little breath resistance, similar to a low D Irish whistle.
A free tenon fitting by our instrument repair team is included with every purchase. Email us before shipping and we can size it to your specific flute tenon.
Includes headjoint, thumb rest, extra O-rings, protective tape, and cotton zip bag.
