Chuck Findley 66MV Hybrid Trumpet Mouthpiece

Description

Chuck Findley's reputation as one of the most recorded trumpet players of all time was built on versatility — the ability to move between big band, studio, pit, pops, and jazz settings without missing a beat. The 66MV reflects exactly that. It's the most popular mouthpiece Wedge sells, and the reason is simple: it works well for more players in more situations than almost any other model in the lineup.

The character sits in Bach 3C territory — medium cup, medium diameter, balanced tone with good projection and enough warmth to work across styles. The .66 inch inner diameter is very slightly smaller than a true 3C, which gives most players a touch more efficiency without changing the fundamental feel. The cup depth is the shallowest of the Bach C cups — not as deep as the 1½C, 5C, or 7C — which keeps the tone on the brighter, more projecting side of medium.

Concert band, wind ensemble, brass quintet, worship, jazz, pit, pops — the 66MV covers all of it without compromise. It's not the typical first choice for orchestral section playing or dedicated lead work, but it can be made to work in both settings. For players who need one mouthpiece that travels well across every gig on the calendar, this is the one to reach for.

The Hybrid version uses a 3D-printed polymer rim and cup liner in a medical-grade resin, bonded to a brass base. Warm and comfortable on the lips, with the oval Wedge rim design reducing embouchure fatigue over long playing sessions.

Comparable to the Bach 3C, GR 66MX, Monette B4 and B4S, Schilke 14B, Warburton 4MD, Yamaha 14B4, and Bobby Shew Jazz.
